Tenafly police seek man who approached girls

PUBLIC ALERT: Tenafly police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who got out of a white pickup truck and said, “Hey, come here,” to two girls — ages 6 and 10 — who then ran into their house and told their mother.

The girls told police they were playing in their driveway on Engle Street, just north of East Clinton Avenue, around quarter to noon on Saturday when the man pulled up and got out of the “larger white pickup truck” believed to be Chevy Silverado Crew or extended cab.

The stranger — described as white, in his 30s, about six feet tall — then crossed the street toward the girls, Tenafly Police Chief Michael Bruno said.

“He spoke normally,” they both said.

Their mother immediately dialed 911, Bruno said.

The stranger was wearing a long sleeved, white buttoned-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms and dark blue jeans, the girls told police.

Anyone with similar incidents or further information is asked to call Tenafly police at (201) 568-5100.

Police in neighboring Closter are looking for a man fitting a different description who they said followed a young girl for nearly a half mile. SEE: Have you seen this man?
