Officer Jason Heese spotted the pair a short distance from Tenafly Road near Riveredge Road, where the attempted holdup occurred just after 8:45 p.m., Capt. Michael deMoncada told CLIFFVIEW PILOT early this afternoon.

The couple told police that one of the robbers pointed the gun and demanded money after both rode up on bicycles, deMoncada said.

When the man and woman said they didn’t have any, the pair rode off. Neither victim was injured, deMoncada said.

Tenafly and Cresskill police flooded the area. Soon after, Hesse had the suspects in custody.

He also recovered the gun, the captain said.

Edwin Molina and Elvin Gonzalez, both 19, were each charged with robbery and weapons counts.

They were being held on $200,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.

US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials requested detainers for both.
