CRESSKILL, N.J. -- Jerome Lazarus, of Cresskill and formerly of Jersey City, died Aug. 23. He was 102.
He was born in Jersey City and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He twice was the deputy mayor of Jersey City, as well as being the Commissioner of the Hudson County Sewerage Authority and Board of Elections, Rockaway Valley Sewerage Authority and Jersey City Finance Director. He also worked for Used Equipment Directory/Penton Media for many years.
He was an avid traveler and New York Mets fan.
He was the brother of Maxwell Lazarus; uncle of Josh Lazarus and his wife Nancy, Michael Lazarus and his wife Lori and Abel Lazarus and his wife Nadine; and grand-uncle of Erica and Jared.
There will be an 11:30 a.m. chapel service Friday in Eden Memorial Chapels Inc., 327 Main St., Fort Lee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
