The inaugural Joey’s Fund Closter Classic Car Show was begun by the DeCarlo family in honor of their son, Joseph, who was 2½ when he died in 1986.

“At that time we were the luckiest family, as a result of an experimental treatment, we were able to have Joey in our lives for an additional year and a half,” Joey's father, Tony DeCarlo, wrote on the fund’s website

The family asks for help in paying it forward to provide assistance to families who are faced with the challenges of taking care of a child with an illness. All proceeds will go to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson.

Joey’s Fund is dedicated to easing the challenges that parents face when caring for a child suffering from life threatening illness.

Insurance covers most medical expenses, but many unforeseen costs that are not covered can cripple families: insurance co-pays , prescription drug fees, lost wages due to missing work, gas, tolls, parking, food and other daily expenses.

Joey’s Fund Closter Classic Car Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church parking lot, 20 Legion Place, Closter.
