Huttle will speak about two environmental bills. One she recently introduced establishes a fee on stores' use of non-compostable plastic bags. The second is a bottle bill that she is working on.
A few League members have been learning about plastic waste since last summer, when the Northern Valley League initiated a local study on this topic.
Committee leader Sophie Heymann and members Lorraine Cohen, Naomi Epstein, Betty Frank, Peggy Kabakow and Ann Moscovitz will share what they have learned:
- what plastic waste is,
- what its dangers are,
- recycling and disposal options, and
- legislation to reduce and regulate it.
Huttle will discuss her bills and future efforts to control plastics to help the environment.
The general meeting, open to the public, will start at 7 p.m. The library is located at 280 High St., in Closter.
Huttle represents District 37, which includes Alpine, Bogota, Cresskill, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Leonia, Northvale, Palisades Park, Rockleigh, Teaneck and Tenafly.
