DEMAREST, N.J. -- Demarest Pizzeria owner Steve Renke celebrated 29 years in business on Sunday.
A father of three who lives in town, Renke became a partner his senior year at Northern Valley Regional High School in what was first known as Caesar's Pizza and then Pizza Express. He began working behind the counter full time after graduation and bought out his partners two years later.
Over time, the business evolved from pizza and sandwiches to include a large, varied menu, catering and birthday parties. Renke also is deeply involved in the community and supports a variety of causes, particularly in sports.
Demarest Pizza, at 130 Hardenburgh Avenue, is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
