A week ago, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas.

A week from now, another major hurricane could do the same, possibly on the East Coast.

Tropical Storm Irma, now situated in the eastern Atlantic, strengthened into a large Category 3 hurricane on Thursday, packing winds of 115 miles per hour, prompting an advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

It's expected to become to Category 4 early next week and experts say it has the potential to be a Category 5 hurricane.

It poses a threat to the Caribbean and possibly to the East Coast next week amid the height of hurricane season, which began June 1 and runs through Nov. 30.

Computer models agree that Irma will continue its westerly path toward the East Coast. The American model takes Irma to the Carolinas by the end of next weekend. The European model has Irma taking a more southern track, possibly threatening South Florida.

Updated models early next week should provide a clearer idea of Irma's path.
