Parking Is About To Get Easier In Emerson... Maybe

EMERSON, N.J. — Come Sept. 5, drivers will be able to park on Emerson streets at any time except in the event of a weather emergency — that is, if all council members vote in favor of an amendment to a parking ordinance.

Big changes could be coming to the freshly-paved Emerson streets.

Overnight parking is currently banned during the winter months, but the prohibition against it would only apply to commercial vehicles.

The ordinance was introduced by Council President Chris Knoller at on Aug. 18

"It is my belief that the ordinance has support of the council members and will be adopted on September 5," Mayor Lou Lamatina said.

"This ordinance is an important improvement to the quality of life in Emerson, as we have seen that many families have difficulty fitting their cars into their driveways in the winter months.

"In fact, I know of two residents who had plans to expand their driveways to accommodate additional children's vehicles. Both of those residents were quite pleased over the introduction of this ordinance."
