Pomodoro Reds Win Fort Lee Little League World Series FORT LEE, N.J. — The Pomodoro Reds defeated PBA Local 245 7-6 Friday evening to win the minor division Fort Lee Little League World Series. The team, comprised of boys and girls ages seven to nine, finished the season with a record of 8-11. PBA Local 245 also finished the season with an 8-11 record.

New East Rutherford Police Officer Graduates From Academy EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New East Rutherford Police Officer William Zito was graduated from the Bergen County Police Academy on Thursday. The borough native, who was sworn in on Jan. 20, becomes the 37th member of the department. "I am so proud to see Billy graduate," Police Commissioner told Daily Voice. "It was a privilege to hire him. I look forward to seeing him on the road. He will be a great addition to the force. " Zito, 30, served in the US Navy for five years before becoming a police officer.

Photos: Mahwah Professor Takes African Expedition MAHWAH, N.J. — Mahwah professor Sandy Shevack recently traveled to the United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC) in Imbaseni, Tanzania on a "learning and sharing expedition." The Center provides housing, cultural and educational services for over 50 children who have no other adults to provide for them. It was founded in 1971 by former Black Panther Party leaders Peter and Charlotte O’Neal. Video: Carlstadt Students 'Teach The World To Sing' CARLSTADT, N.J. — Carlstadt Public School sixth graders wrapped up their "Peace by Peace" project with a video in which they sing "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing," an early 1970s song that started as a Coca-Cola commercial jingle.The Peace by Peace project was the idea of math teacher Esther Fletcher as a way to foster a more peaceful and accepting school environment. Little Ferry Student Wins Magazine Cover Contest LITTLE FERRY, N.J. — Little Ferry seventh grader Lila Patel won K-8 Magazine's "design a cover" contest and will have her illustration (pictured above) featured on the cover of the May/June issue of the music teacher trade publication. Oradell Buys Three New Defibrillators ORADELL, N.J. — Oradell will buy three new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for the senior center, Memorial Field and the Doug Parcells Athletic Complex (DPAC). The devices will be the "talking" version that communicates directions to the person providing the aid, Oradell Councilman Michael Staff told Daily Voice. Teaneck Board Of Education Reinstates Courtesy Busing For Hundreds TEANECK, N.J. (UPDATE): Amid parental outcry, the Teaneck Board of Education unanimously reinstaed courtesy busing Wednesday night for students attending Grades 1- 4 who live 1.4 to two miles from their schools. Public districts in New Jersey must provide busing for K-8 students who live more than two miles from their school.
