Denise Pope's Challenge Success organization focuses on learning strategies and how to help create a better work-life balance.

"She can cite the research at an abstract level but also make it real by telling stories about her own teenagers and the rules they have in their household for cell phone usage, sleep, and what courses to sign up for, which makes it tangible," said Katie Janssen, a member of Rational Homework Review and the Tenafly Education Foundation.

The RHOWR helped bring Pope to the attention of school officials. The TEF donated the $2,000 fee for the 7 p.m. joint-school event in the middle school auditorium.

Local schools have held discussions on homework issues, continuing education planning and stress, while focusing on social-emotional learning education.Pope is a speaker who Janssen said they believe will instill a sense of peace.

"She says that you don't have to sacrifice academic excellence for life balance that will make learning more effective," Janssen said.
