Demarest Debate Team Succeeds

DEMAREST, N.J. -- James Santana, principal of Demarest's Northern Valley Regional High School, has announced that students on NVD's Varsity Debate team have won several awards this year.

Partners Haley Yang and Lucas Moiseyev brought home multiple trophies and also represented the school at the championships, where they won third place among the best teams in the Bergen County Debate League.

Judges Jennie Shin, Sarah Liang and Kevin Kim were chosen as the best judge at different varsity debates. The officers of the debate team have also worked hard on helping debaters and judges develop their skills through a mentorship program and mock debates.

Co-captains Roey Rozen and Tamir Cohen led workshop sessions on logical fallacies and other strategies to help team members succeed.

"Congratulations to the entire Varsity Debate team for a fantastic year under the direction of English teacher, Mrs. Esther Lee," said Santana.
