FORT LEE, NJ -- Mary Ann Hubschman, the owner and director of Palisades Preschool & Kindergarten, will be honored as one of Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce's persons of the year in an Oct. 24 gala event at the Palisadium.

Also being honored is Fort Lee Police Chief Keith M. Bendul.“I am honored to receive the award," said Hubschman, whose early childhood education center operates in Closter and Fort Lee. "Fifty years later, we still focus on intellectual and social growth of each child.”

“Humpty Dumpty Nursery School” was the only local school for non-school-age youngsters in Fort Lee when Hubschman and her husband, Richard, designed and built it in September 1965.

Palisades Country Day School in Closter opened 21 years ago, followed by an annex and summer programs at the Country Day Camp that offer swimming, arts and crafts for toddlers and kids through the first-grade level.

“Fifty years is an amazing milestone,” Hubschman said.

"She's seen several generations of children enter her school - children, their children and their grandchildren," said Doug Feltman, president of the Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce. "We are celebrating her and her school."
