Officer Corey Rooney pulled their car over on Ellen Court Sunday night after it crossed the double-yellow line several times on Hillsdale Avenue, Police Chief Robert Francaviglia said.

Speaking with the occupants, Rooney smelled raw marijuana, Francaviglia said.

Investigating the source, he found a duffel bag containing the identifications, removed from two cars, the chief said. He also found a bag of pot, he said.

One of the men, identified as Freddy Caceres, 21, also had 38 pills without a prescription, Francaviglia said.

He was arrested along with the driver, 21-year-old Pedro Acevedo Jr. of South Amboy, and front-seat passenger Nijeer Blount, 22 also of Belleville.

All were charged with receiving stolen property and marijuana possession, among other counts.

Acevedo Jr. was released pending a hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court. His passengers were ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending bail hearings.
