The owner told police the $90,-000 BMW 740iL sedan was taken sometime between 11 o’clock Saturday night and 6 a.m. Sunday after the thief or thieves went through the glove box and center console of an unlocked black Mercedes Benz C30 outside the garage and found the opener.

Once in the Homans Avenue garage, whoever was responsible first searched a BMW X5 before finding a key fob in the Beamer, Closter Police Sgt. Vincent Aiello told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Two neighbors said attempts apparently had been made to take their cars — one a 2013 Mercedes and another a 2002 Lexus.

A resident who had her locked Mercedes parked outside reported seeing a dark-colored sedan pull up in her driveway, its headlights off, around 2 a.m. Sunday. She said she then saw what looked to be a flashlight beam coming from inside.

A couple of minutes later, the car pulled away, the resident told police.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification lifted prints from one of the vehicles at the scene.
