The driver called police just after 11 p.m. Saturday and said the gunman and a woman he was with fled on foot toward Palisade Avenue after the incident on Maple Street, Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.

The driver wasn’t injured, Sucorowski said.

Responding officers, joined by a Bergen County sheriff’s K9 unit, set up a perimeter – and spotted the pair about 45 minutes later in a Palisades Avenue backyard “not far from the original incident,” the captain said.

“Detective Robert Meehan led the investigation and located a handgun believed to have been used in the crime on top of the roof of the house where the suspect was located,” Sucorowski said.

Meehan took Allen J. Rodriguez, 31, into custody on charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats, as well as being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He remained held without bail Monday in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.
