Email bomb threat clears Tenafly Middle School

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Bomb-sniffing dogs searched the Tenafly Middle School late this afternoon after a staff member received an anonymous email threat, police confirmed tonight.

“The contents of the email were vague and claimed that multiple bombs were placed inside of the Middle School,” Police Capt. Michael deMoncada said.

When police got the call, just before 4 p.m. “there were a small number of students and staff in the building for after-school activities,” deMoncada said. “In response, the Middle School was evacuated and officers from the Tenafly Police and Bergen County Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and secured the area.

“The Cresskill Police Department also assisted by handling all additional calls for service in our jurisdiction while Tenafly Police officers were assigned to the investigation,” the captain said.

“A thorough check of the building by our officers and the Bergen County Police K-9 Bomb Squad did not reveal any explosive devices, and the Middle School,” he said.

The school was re-opened just after 6 p.m.

“This is still an active investigation,” deMoncada said, adding that detectives were attempting to identify the source of the email.
