DEMAREST, N.J. – The search for a hit-and-run vehicle that struck a killed a 63-year-old Demarest man as he walked his dog Tuesday night ended with its discovery and the arrest of a restaurant delivery driver in Cresskill, authorities confirmed Thursday.

As Daily Voice reported Wednesday , a local firefighter who witnessed the crash on Madison Avenue east of Van Horn Street just after 8 p.m. Monday got the name of the restaurant off the 2012 Toyota Prius and tended to the victim while his son, who was with him, called 911 .

Streetlights were lit, but the street has no sidewalks and it was a dark night, Demarest Police Chief James Powderley III previously told Daily Voice.

The victim, who sustained severe head trauma, died at Hackensack University Medical Center hours later, Powderly said.

On Thurday, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said investigators found the vehicle in Cresskill and arrested Cheewah Wong, 54, a Malaysian national living in Elmhurst, Queens.

The front windshield “has sustained major damage,” the prosecutor said.

A judge boosted Wong’s bail to $250,000, after the victim died Wednesday morning.

Wong remained held in the Bergen County Jail on charges that include leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

A Dec. 22 first appearance was scheduled in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
