The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on Robinhood Road, Closter Police Chief Dennis Kaine confirmed.

Despite initials media reports to the contrary, the youngster wasn’t mauled. EMS workers initially spotted two puncture wounds on his cheek.

The dog is “licensed and currently on shots,” and was being kept in the house by the owner, Kaine told CLIFFVIEW PILOT just after 5 p.m. The Board of Health has been notified, the chief said.

“There were no previous incidents with the dog,” he said.
