Michael D’Antoni, a 56-year-old self-employed business consultant who also has acted in off-Broadway plays, was arrested by the New York County District Attorney’s Office when he showed up for a court hearing in Manhattan yesterday, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

He’s charged here with theft by deception.

Dantoni “convinced four individuals four individuals to give him funds in excess of $100,000 for the purchase of goods to be exported out of the country with a guaranteed large return on the investment,” Molinelli said. “The goods were never acquired by Dantoni and the overseas buyers were non-existent.”

He was being held without bail pending extradition. A Dec. 2 arraignment date was set.

NOTE: An earlier story identified D’Antoni as being from Manhattan, based on information initially supplied by authorities.
