Markey was a Congresswoman for Colorado for one term and served a stint as Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs in the United States Department of Homeland Security.
She has also held a variety of politically-related jobs, like legislative assistant to a senator, and administrative jobs, including for Homeland Security, the Treasury Department and the Department of State.
While Markey was with the State Department, in the '80s, she created its first comprehensive computer security training program for the department. For that work, the State Department recognized Markey with its Meritorious Honor Award.
