The President's Award is given by DVAC President Joanne Pianghi to one volunteer who has gone "above and beyond" in his or her service over the past year.

Hoag, a retired Haworth postmaster, remains humble.

"It was a complete surprise to hear my name announced," the Demarest mother told Daily Voice. "When I commit to a position in an organization, I do whatever it takes to get the job done. I don't consider my actions exceptional, it's just part of the job."

Hoag has served the DVAC since the mid 1970s. From 2012 to 2014, she served as Chief of DVAC, and is also responsible for training volunteers in the corps.

Also receiving excellence awards on Saturday night were Joe Bonino (Driver of the Year), Maria Selle (EMT of the Year) and Maayan Shalvi (Chief's Award).
