The Kansas City Barbecue Society 'State Championship' event at the Sports Complex on 3rd Street will feature both a rib cook-off and KCBS-sanctioned competition like that of the hit TV series "BBQ Pitmasters."

The winner will qualify for the Jack Daniels BBQ Contest, considered the "World Championship of BBQ," according to the event website.

Winners also receive an automatic invitation to attend the "world's largest" American Royal BBQ contest.

The free food and music festival, set for Sept. 25-27, is sponsored in part by the Cresskill American Legion and includes a full line-up of live music.

The schedule:

FRIDAY: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
SATURDAY: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
SUNDAY: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
