"We went through a long battle to get the permits," owner Massimo Grieco told Daily Voice, "But in the end we pulled it off and I am very excited,.

The Closter Dock Road deli replaces a gas station at that location after moving down the block.

Grieco immigrated to America when he was 24 and worked in delis before opening Nonna Clementina's in 2000. The deli is named after his grandmother, whose recipes inspire all of Grieco's dishes.

"Their Italian food is just like what my mother would make," said Closter Councilman Robert DiDio, who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "They have an excellent product and we are all excited about their new location."

"It is a lot nicer than a gas station," added Closter Mayor John Glidden.
