Wayne native Jenny Sayegh, who recently moved to Ridgewood from San Diego, plans on opening Samba Bowls on E. Ridgewood Avenue on June 1.
"I'm bringing California back with me," said Sayegh, 32.
Her shop will focus on acai bowls, which are made from the tropical berry that boasts a wide array of health benefits. They're like smoothie bowls and can be topped with granola, fresh fruit, coconut flakes and more.
Sayegh started as a high school math teacher at Northern Highlands Regional and Park Ridge.
She moved to California to take a job as an assistant principal in San Diego, where she fell in love with acai bowls.
Sayegh began making them and eventually decided to leave her education job to follow her dreams.
"I still love teaching and I love education in general," she said. "But I've always wanted to be a business owner... I'm taking the fun route."
